Bleaching

Dental bleaching can be used to correct many tooth discolorations. These discolorations may have been caused by aging, consumption of staining substances such as coffee, tea, red wine or tobacco. Using the latest in bleaching technology, we can offer a safe method for creating a beautiful, “brilliant” smile. Just about anyone can benefit from tooth whitening. However, treatment may be more effective for some than it is for others. Upon an oral exam, Dr. Steffen can determine if you are a candidate for this procedure, including a shade assessment.

  • Is a near permanent solution for a “dull” smile, restoring brightness and bringing a smile alive.

For those with light stain we have professional strength bleach strips which are more effective than those available over the counter. The strips are worn 30 minutes twice daily for 21 days.

For patients with somewhat heavier stain bleach trays may be a better option. Impressions are taken in our office and approximately one week later you come back to receive your trays and the bleaching gel. Trays are worn 30 minutes twice daily for one to six weeks depending upon your level of stain.

If the stain on your teeth is very heavy, we offer a stronger gel solution to be used in your trays. With this particular solution, trays are worn overnight for three nights.

Is Tooth Whitening Safe?

Yes, research and clinical studies indicate that whitening teeth under the supervision of a dentist is safe. In fact, many dentists consider whitening the safest cosmetic dental procedure available. Tooth whitening is not recommended for children under 13 years of age and pregnant or lactating women.

How long do the results last?

Life style plays a huge part in determining how long bleaching results will last. Drinking coffee, tea, grape juice, red wine and smoking all have high staining capabilities, so the less of that you have the longer your bleaching will last. If you have used bleach strips, you can purchase a new kit whenever you feel the need to lighten your teeth again as they become darker. If you have bleach trays, you can always purchase additional bleach syringes whenever necessary.
